Recently, the Shanghai Heavy Industry Casting and Forging Company under the Nuclear Power Group successfully completed the forging and forming tasks of the first batch of two conical forgings for the "Hualong One" batch project, marking a new step forward in the group's nuclear power equipment manufacturing capabilities.

This batch of conical forgings features a unique composite structure with two long straight sections of a middle inclined cone, which poses extremely high requirements for the control of key dimensional accuracy such as roundness and taper. Facing technical challenges, the Large Forging Institute of Shanghai Heavy Industry Casting and Forging Company and the Forging Branch Factory worked together to tackle the problems. They organized process discussions and technical briefings, systematically sorted out the key points of forging process control, and the branch factory established a special scientific research project to optimize and improve the dimensional control method, forming a three-in-one process operation plan of "precise control - dynamic adjustment - real-time monitoring".

Conical forgings are extra-large and special-shaped parts. They are formed in multiple passes using special tooling and molds. They have the characteristics of difficult loading and lifting in the furnace, high risk of elliptical inclusions when taking out of the furnace, and high complexity of multi-crane and multi-tooling coordinated operation when loading and unloading the frame. For this reason, the forging branch factory conducted a targeted full-process cold test linkage operation drill before forging. During the forging process, the technical backbone of the Large Forging Institute and the Forging Parts Branch Factory provided full tracking and timely on-site services. During the crucial stage of formation, all lines worked overtime and scientifically allocated morning, noon and night shifts to operate continuously. On-site operators efficiently completed the preparation of tooling in a tight production schedule, dynamically adjusted the forging operation process based on key control point observations, and conducted multi-point dimensional measurements of special-shaped forgings under high-temperature conditions of the forgings, fully ensuring the production progress and guaranteeing the smooth production of nuclear power research products.
